FINCA AND FARMHOUSE
Charming El Mocambo Hostel and Guest House (Bed & Breakfast) is the perfect place to stay while visiting Salento, the Cocora Valley and the coffee region – eje cafetero – of Colombia. The old finca is converted into a guesthouse and offers camping ground as well as amazing safari tents in the middle of nature.
The finca lays outside of Salento with views of lush green hills, a river searching its way through the valley and other small fincas in the distance. The old farmhouse has a charming decor with rustic furniture and high ceilings – and invites for some relaxed time in the hammock.
In the evenings you can enjoy some quality time with other travelers next to a bonfire in a teepee, while during the day you might want to take a dip in the natural pool with water from the mountains or in the close by river.
There are dogs, cats, butterflies, cows and horses roaming freely on or around the property making the atmosphere even more authentic.
Another highlight are the night skies which are incredible with no city lights around trying to disturb this spectacle. The friendly staff makes the stay even more joyful and tempting to never leave again. Make sure to stay some days to enjoy the laid back atmosphere.
During our time at Mocambo we stayed in a Safari tent overlooking the river and the green hills. The charming tents with nice rustic furniture are a few steps away from the finca which gives you a lot of privacy. You won’t hear anything except from the sound of nature.
The breakfast is included and will be served at the veranda in front of the main house. Next to the veranda you will find a well equipped kitchen which is free to use for all guests. In our case, staying in the safari tents, the bathroom and showers can be found as well in the main house.
El Mocambo Hostel and Guest House also known as “Camp Canada” (due to the Canadian owners) is a few minutes away from Salento, which makes it even more peaceful. To go to the city you either walk back to the main road where you can take a bus (10 mins) or you can ask for the short cut to town if you feel like walking (30 mins). Another option is to hitchhike the short ride until the village (we made best experiences and even got good advice for where to get the best breakfast in town).
During your stay in El Mocambo and nearby Salento you should definitely explore the “Valle de Cocora” with its huge palm trees and hummingbirds, visit a coffee plantation, enjoy the laid back atmosphere of the pueblo Salento and its surroundings by small walks paired with coffee breaks.
HOW TO GET THERE
Address: Km 4 Via a Salento, Finca Venecia, Vereda Boquia, Salento, Colombia
Coming from Armenia, El Mocambo is laying on the way to Salento. We were simple asking the bus driver to drop us at the path leading to the finca which is two turns after crossing the river “Río Quindio”.
